Billingham Stars Junior U16’s came away champions at The Galloway Cup Ice Hockey tournament.

The u16’s team travelled up to Solway to compete in the tournament on Saturday 8th June. After winning the first 4 games the Junior Stars faced Belfast Giants, the only other team not to lose a game so far.

Belfast took an early lead but the Stars battled to the end with Lucas Dowdle equalising late in the game. Both teams had 4 wins and a draw and therefore contested in the final.

The Star’s hit first in the tournament final with a goal from Jay Lucas before Joe Walls added a second just after the halfway mark. Billingham failed to convert a penalty shot but a fourth shutout of the day for net minder Jacob Hammond helped to seal victory over the Irish team.

Tees Active Sports Academy member Jacob Hammond (net minder) only conceded 2 goals the whole tournament and Thomas Fraser on-loan from Whitley Bay was presented with the player of the tournament all star award. Congratulations to the whole team on their tournament success.
