On Saturday 12 September, Tees Active will be bringing together skating, reading and family fun for what promises to be our Coolest Go All In event yet.
Designed to inspire children and families to get active, read more and discover new opportunities within their community, the event will welcome participants from Tees Active’s Learn to Skate programme, invited to take the opportunity to sign up to Stockton Library service
Working in partnership with the National Literacy Trust and the Stockton library team at Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, the event will encourage families to sign up for library membership, discover the joy of reading and connect physical activity with literacy in a fun and engaging way.
The event builds on the success of Tees Active’s Go All In campaign, which promotes active lifestyles while helping children develop a lifelong love of reading. By bringing together ice skating and books in one unique experience, families will have the opportunity to enjoy quality time together, explore new interests and access a range of exciting opportunities available across the borough.
There is already strong interest in the event, with members of Billingham Ice Skating Club being in attendance to provide information about the club and figure skating. Tees Active Community Engagement Manager Allan McDermott said:
“We know that helping children become active and confident readers can have a lasting impact on their health, wellbeing and future opportunities. The Coolest Go All In Event is a fantastic way to bring families together, celebrate everything that skating and reading can offer, Lucy Reeves and Sarah Bird from the National Literacy Trust will be attendance and will be distributing a number of free books to attendees and offering advice on how to engage with the National year of Reading
Families attending will be able to find out more about local library services, opportunities to continue their skating journey and ways to stay active throughout the year. The event also supports wider efforts to increase reading participation and make physical activity accessible, enjoyable and inclusive for everyone.
The Go All In event will be on 12th September at Billingham Forum Ice Arena between 8.15am and 11am.
