Starting at Billingham Forum Ice Arena on Wednesday 20th March Richard Braithwaite will walk 40 miles to raise money and awareness for ‘Freddies Fight’.
The fundraising appeal ‘Freddie’s Fight’ aims to raise money for a young boy called Freddie who was diagnosed with stage four neuroblastoma in September last year. The high risk aggressive cancer had spread to multiple areas of bone from multiple lymph nodes and Freddie now requires medical treatment in New York costing £250,000.
Richard, a regular skater at Billingham Forum who refers to the ice arena as being his second home started his fundraising efforts on skates by completing several laps of the ice rink with fellow fundraisers. He will then carry on his long journey to Kirkbymoorside on foot walking via the Transporter bridge in Middlesbrough, Great Ayton and across the moors to end on Thursday evening.
Richard said: “It’s amazing to be able to help raise money for such a worthwhile cause by completing this challenge. There have been many different fundraising efforts overall and it is great to see the community all pulling together for Freddie.
You can follow Freddie’s story and progress on Facebook through the Freddie’s Fight page as well as on twitter and Instagram.
