It’s never too late to learn a new skill, and ice skating is a fantastic way to meet new people, get active, and have fun! Tees Active now offers the official British Ice Skating Learn to Skate courses – Skate UK – specifically for adults (ages 16+) who want to master the ice for the first time or brush up on existing skills.
Delivered by British Ice Skating qualified coaches, you’ll progress through the Skate UK Fundamental Skills Grades (Levels 1–8), learning essential techniques such as balance, agility, and coordination. As you advance, you’ll develop skills like forward and backward skating, stopping, crossovers, and transitions – all at a pace that suits you.
Practice makes perfect! We encourage you to practice outside of lesson time to build confidence and fluidity of movement as you work towards each level.
It’s time to develop the skills for an exciting and fulfilling hobby – and why not get your friends involved too? We also offer one-to-one Private Lessons for those wanting to make speedy progress on the ice.
Lessons are ongoing and run throughout the year.

We’ll provide the ice skates for those that don’t have their own
The lessons take you progressively through Levels 1-10 of the Tees Active Learn to Skate Programme.
The Adult Learn to Skate programme is available for over 16s.
Check out the information below to best understand your skill level and what level you should enrol at.
These levels encompass the fundamental skating skills required to start your ice-skating journey.
By the end of this phase, skaters will have a clear understanding of forward & backward skating, forward & backward stopping and of edges and how to use them.
These levels strengthen the fundamental skating skills and build upon them.
On completion of this phase, skaters will have a working knowledge of forward & backward stroking, forward & backward crossovers and transitioning from forwards to backwards and backwards to forwards.
These levels embed and reinforce previously taught skills and links them together to increase skating quality, confidence, and consistency.
The programme is designed to engage your interest, build your confidence, and challenge your athletic and technical development in ice skating as you progress through the levels.
